Ask The Experts: How Do I Fix Injector Seating?

When you install new fuel injectors, you expect them to operate great. You spent time and money putting them in, and you need to get your engine back to work.

So, it can be especially frustrating when you put a set of new injectors in your diesel engine and experience a failure soon afterward. That's just time and money lost.

But, it might not be the injectors that are to blame for the failure.

Our cutting tool takes some of the guesswork out of identifying what went wrong with your fuel injectors. It can help you create a perfect seal, reducing the risk of damage to your injector caused by improper seating.

Not sure if this will help your situation? We're going through why poorly seated injectors are a problem and what you can do to help prevent future failures.

Poorly Seated Injectors

Installing new fuel injectors needs to be handled carefully to help prevent issues. Despite this, when an injector fails shortly after install, many people automatically blame the injector.

This isn't always the case, though. Sometimes, the injectors you installed were great, but a poor injector seat can be the cause of failure.

What is a Poorly Seated Injector?

What does it mean to have an injector that isn't correctly seated? Well, similar to a poorly seated valve, when you have an injector that isn't seated properly, you have an issue with where the injector comes into contact with the seat.

You can diagnose a poorly seated valve by using a bluing compound. This allows you to see where the valve does and does not make proper contact.

You can actually do the same thing with your injectors. But, what do you do once you pinpoint the problem?

Fixing Fuel Injector Seating Issues

If you've figured out that your injectors aren't seating right, it's important to take care of the issue to help prevent future failures.

Our cutting tool offers a simple way to take care of the issue.

With both fine and coarse tips, you get that smooth finish that eliminates unevenness in the injector seat.

Turning the tool within the seat allows you to see where the tool makes contact. This helps you determine how much needs to be ground to get an even fit.

This ensures that your fuel injector makes contact where it's supposed to, and that your o-ring creates a perfect seal. This seal is vital to prevent combustion gases from getting past the tip.
